Start With What Matters Most to You

Before you lock in any timeline, decide what moments matter most to you! Are you dreaming of those soft, quiet, getting-ready photos with your closest people? Do you want every minute from your first look to the sparkler exit captured? Knowing your must-haves helps you choose the right photography package.

Here’s a tip: always give yourself more time than you think you need! Trying to cram everything into a short window of coverage can feel hectic and rushed, which doesn’t give your photographer time to get creative or for real moments to happen.

If you want full-day coverage—from those first curls in your hair to the champagne clink in your getaway car—look for at least a 10-hour photography package!

The desert sun can be intense, and the harshest light hits at midday when the sun is high and shadows are strong. An experienced Arizona wedding photographer can handle any lighting situation, but if you want those dreamy, even, glowy portraits, timing matters.

Here’s something to think about: most traditional timelines place the ceremony smack dab in the middle of the brightest part of the day. But you can totally think outside the box here! I once photographed a wedding where the couple had cocktail hour before the ceremony (with passed apps and all!) and pushed the ceremony closer to sunset. Guests LOVED arriving to snacks and drinks, and the couple got the golden hour light for their vows. Win-win!

So whether you’re having an indoor ceremony or exchanging vows under the open sky, check the sunset time for your exact location and date. Planning your portraits and ceremony around golden hour can totally elevate the feel of your photos.

Break Up the Portrait Time

Nobody wants to feel like they’ve been in a photo shoot all day. That’s why I always recommend breaking up couple and bridal portraits into chunks throughout the day.

• A few right after the first look (before makeup gets teary!)
• Some during cocktail hour
• A few golden hour shots after dinner

That way, you’re not disappearing for an hour and missing your own party. Plus, the light changes throughout the day and gives your gallery variety.

 

Always Involve Your Photographer in the Timeline

If you’re working with a wedding planner (highly recommend!), they’ll probably create your master timeline. But don’t forget to loop your photographer into that process!
