Planning a Pacific Northwest elopement is one of the most exciting things you can do if you’re looking for epic views, laid-back vibes, and a celebration that feels true to you. The PNW is packed with dreamy landscapes—from misty beaches to snow-dusted peaks—and it’s one of the most versatile places in the U.S. to elope. As a seasoned PNW elopement photographer, I’ve hiked, climbed, and chilled (literally) in all kinds of weather with the coolest couples. Let me take you behind the scenes and help you plan your own unforgettable adventure.
This blog is packed with everything you need to know: where to elope, how to prep for weather, what to pack, what the heck permits are for, and why you still might want a glam squad even if you’re hiking to your ceremony. Whether you’re aiming for a coastal celebration, forest ceremony, or mountaintop vows, this is your ultimate guide to eloping in the Pacific Northwest.
Besides the fact that it’s insanely beautiful, the PNW is ideal for couples who want to break away from tradition. You can get married under a canopy of towering evergreens, in front of a glacier-fed lake, or with the ocean crashing in the background. It’s all here!
You also get more privacy, more flexibility, and way less stress than a big wedding. Just you, your partner, maybe a few loved ones, and a whole lot of nature.
We started the day at a cozy rental home in Suncadia with A & W and their favorite people. Once everyone was bundled up and ready, we caravanned to the trailhead, ready to tackle the hike. Now, I’m not gonna lie—it was short but oh-so-steep. Like, lungs-on-fire steep. But A & W and their crew crushed it. When we got to the top, we were greeted with snow flurries, freezing temps, and jaw-dropping views.
This Cascade Mountain elopement was next-level epic. Towering peaks stretched out all around us, and we could see layers of ridgelines fading into the horizon. The crisp alpine air, the silence broken only by laughter and wind, and the snowflakes drifting down made it absolutely unforgettable. This area offers some of the most striking backdrops in the entire Pacific Northwest—whether you’re at a summit or tucked in the woods along a trail, the scenery is unmatched.
The ceremony and champagne toast happened right there at the summit. The bride kept her coat on for portraits because it was that cold—but honestly, it added such a raw, adventurous vibe to the photos. Back at the rental, we warmed up, took family photos, and they celebrated into the evening with cozy vibes and heartfelt toasts. If you’re the kind of couple that wants alpine air and dramatic scenery—this is your sign to consider the Cascades for your Pacific Northwest elopement.
This beach elopement was intimate and relaxed—just the way M & I wanted it. They arrived separately and didn’t see each other until the ceremony. The bride’s mom walked her down onto the beach, and their good friend officiated. It was a small, sweet group with their kids and closest family.
The Olympic Peninsula is a true gem—think rugged coastlines, tidepools, sea stacks, and dramatic natural features like the Tree of Life. This gnarly, windswept tree quite literally hangs onto the edge of a cliff, roots exposed, and still thriving. It’s a symbol of resilience and strength, and the perfect backdrop for a love story like M & I’s.
After they said their vows, there was cake, champagne, and lots of laughter. As the sun dipped lower, we got that golden glow and dreamy hues for couple portraits in front of the famous Tree of Life. Even though the ceremony light was a bit harsh, the post-ceremony glow made up for it big time. The lighting was just right, the beach quieted down, and we got those warm, glowy tones that you only get at sunset.
These spots are perfect for couples who want adventure with a side of stunning views. Just note: most aren’t private. There are rules about group size, permits, and even what you can bring with you. That’s where I come in! I help you navigate it all so you can focus on getting married.
Let’s talk about the weather. The PNW is moody, and that’s part of the charm—but timing your elopement right can make a big difference.
Lighting is everything when it comes to photos. I always recommend sunrise or sunset for your ceremony or portraits—trust me, the light hits differently! In the summer, late sunsets are a win. Sunrise is gorgeous, too, but be prepared for an early (like, really early) start.
Dream big, plan hard, and then let go a little. Whether it’s a surprise rainstorm or a closed trail, things happen. The most magical elopements are the ones where couples roll with it.
Even if you’re hiking up a mountain, looking and feeling your best matters. Some makeup artists will even hike with you to do touch-ups along the way (yes, it’s a thing—and yes, it’s amazing).
Planners aren’t just for big weddings. They’re lifesavers when it comes to navigating permits, finding vendors, and setting up your ceremony spot. Even small set-ups can benefit from expert guidance.
Being a PNW elopement photographer isn’t just about snapping pics. I’m documenting the full story—getting ready, details, ceremony, toasts, and those jaw-dropping portraits. It’s not a mini session—it’s your entire wedding day. Make sure that’s reflected in your planning and budget.
Popular elopement spots have strict rules. Some limit how many people can attend, what kind of setups are allowed, and what you’re allowed to bring. A little research (or a planner’s help) goes a long way. I help all my couples stay compliant so you don’t get any surprises.
