Hi I'm Emily!
PNW & Travel wedding and family photographer, mom to three beautiful kiddos, and lover of great food! Here you’ll find wedding recaps, advice for a successful session, a little bit of fashion, and the occasional yummy food recipe. Feel free to dig in and get lost in the pretty pictures.
If you’re dreaming of Mount Rainier engagement photos, let me tell you, you’re making an incredible choice! There’s something so magical about capturing love in the mountains, and Mount Rainier engagement sessions bring all the drama, beauty, and adventure you could want.
As a PNW engagement photographer, I’ve had the chance to shoot at some of the most breathtaking spots in the Pacific Northwest, and Mount Rainier is easily one of my favorites. But planning an engagement session here takes a little more thought than a simple city or beach session. You’ll want to consider everything from the season to the best locations, and I’m here to help make sure your experience is as smooth (and beautiful) as possible.
R & A’s Mount Rainier engagement session at Tipsoo Lake was truly one for the books. They’re doing an untraditional cruise wedding, which means their wedding photos would be mostly predetermined by the cruise package. So, they wanted to make their engagement session something epic, a way to capture the wild, adventurous energy that fit them as a couple.
We chose Tipsoo Lake because it’s one of the most accessible and beautiful locations at Mount Rainier, with no strenuous hiking involved, just a scenic drive up and some relaxed nature walks. The night of their session, the mountain was out (which, if you know Rainier, you know that’s not always guaranteed!), and we got lucky with one of the prettiest blue hour moments I’ve ever seen.
For those who don’t know, blue hour is the short window of time (literally minutes) right after the sun has set but before the sky goes completely dark. Up in the mountains, it creates the dreamiest, soft blue glow that makes everything feel like a fairytale.
R & A also opted for two outfit changes, one more casual and another a bit dressier. Since we were in a remote area, I brought my pop-up changing tent, which I always offer to couples so they can easily switch looks without having to duck behind trees. If you’re thinking about doing two looks for your Mount Rainier engagement photos, this is such a good option!
When it comes to planning a Mount Rainier engagement session, timing is everything. Here’s what you need to know:
Mount Rainier is one of the most visited national parks in the country! To avoid large crowds, weekdays are your best bet. If you want a more private experience, early mornings or late evenings will be your friend.
Some of the best Mount Rainier engagement session locations involve a bit of hiking, while others, like Tipsoo Lake, require little effort to reach. If you’re not into hiking but still want those epic mountain views, I can help find the perfect accessible location for you.
If hiking is involved, I always recommend doing a trial run at the location before your session to make sure you’re comfortable with the trail. Hiking before photos isn’t for everyone, so choosing a spot that fits your comfort level is key!
You can’t always guarantee Mount Rainier will be visible during your session. I keep a close eye on the weather and visibility reports, but sometimes, clouds roll in, and the mountain disappears. That’s just part of the adventure of shooting in the PNW!
Especially in summer, mosquitoes and other bugs are out in full force at some Mount Rainier engagement session locations. I always recommend bringing bug spray and being mentally prepared to deal with nature!
The ecosystems at Mount Rainier are fragile! As much as it’s tempting to step off-trail for a “perfect” shot, I always keep my couples on the designated paths to preserve the landscape. Trust me, we can still get incredible photos without disturbing nature.
For most Mount Rainier engagement sessions, you don’t need a permit unless you’re bringing a large setup (like a full photoshoot production). However, rules can change, and I always check the latest park regulations to ensure we’re good to go!
If you love the outdoors, adventure, and nature, then Mount Rainier engagement photos are the perfect fit! The Pacific Northwest is known for its dramatic landscapes, and capturing your love in a place that reflects that wild beauty just makes sense.
As a PNW wedding photographer, I love working with couples who want something more than just traditional engagement photos. Whether you’re hiking up a ridge, walking along a misty lake, or watching the sunset over the mountains, these sessions create moments that feel true to who you are.
